Goodbye Shots!!!!!! The trigger shot was a success. Egg Retrieval Time!! It really doesn't hurt-Promise! |
Incase you don't know what Egg Retrieval is....
Here’s how it works: the doctor will use an ultrasound to identify your ovaries. Your doctor will gently guide a needle attached to a catheter through the vaginal wall. One by one, the eggs will be drawn out using light suction. They’ll be collected in test tubes labeled with your name number, which will then be handed off to the embryologist—an expert in the science of oocyte cryopreservation (the technical term for egg freezing).
Before you leave the office, you will know how many eggs were retrieved and moved to the embryology lab. The doctors write the number of eggs on your hand! The next day they call to let you know how many of your eggs were able to be fertilized, they consider this day 1. They continue to update you on day 3 and 5. If you have embryos make it to day 5 they are considered good and ready for freeze and genetic testing or transfer- we are doing a freeze all cycle. I will explain this in a separate post!
My ER experience
George and I arrived at the office around 8:30- I was Nervous but excited. I was so ready to see how many eggs we would get. Prep plus surgery lasted about 2 hours. Woke up to 9 eggs! I was pleased with this number even though its on the low side- we were told to expect 7-10, so 9 is better than 7 or 8! They fertilized my eggs a couple hours after surgery!
I think its a tradition to wear cute socks?!?! They gave them to me. |
Post Surgery |
Day 1- The next day they called to tell me 7 out of 9 were able to get fertilized and 4 were good. Once they have been fertilized the embryos cells start dividing- this is a good thing! The doctor assured me the 4 embryos were dividing and looking good!
Day 3- While updating my blog we got our day 3 call. WE STILL HAVE 4! I have been sooo nervous all day. I am so happy and praying their cells keep dividing and make it to day 5. Tuesday we will know the final number!!
